There’s no time like the beginning of the new year to set some goals, focus on your well-being, and determine what it is in life that truly makes you happy. After hearing about Leah’s personal book club selecting The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin for their January read, I decided that was just too good of an idea not to steal! This is the perfect kind of reading material for those who appreciate laughing, learning, and gaining inspiration from the pages of a book. And since it’s January, I’m pretty sure we’re all motivated to grow and become better (and happier!) people in the year that lies ahead.
Many of you may have already read The Happiness Project, as it’s been widely popular for a couple of years now. But I’m sure that there are many of you who have not been exposed to The Happiness Project, which is something we are going to fix immediately! There is such delight to be found within these pages and, indeed, within our own lives if we only take the time to search for it. Gretchen Rubin makes it fun as she chronicles her own twelve-month experiment in finding happiness. Starting is January, she chooses a few things to focus on each month that fall under bigger categories (like Boost Energy, Aim Higher, and Pursue a Passion) and also establishes her own “twelve commandments” and “secrets of adulthood.” A couple of her commandments that really spoke to me include, “Act the way I want to feel” and “Lighten up.” I can take myself and life way too seriously sometimes and these simple yet profound words made me realize that I am not the only one that does this and that change is possible!
Gretchen quotes Robert Louis Stevenson, stating, “There is no duty we so much underrate as the duty of being happy.” Isn’t it the truth? Being happy is important, but most of us don’t allow ourselves the luxury of making it our main focus day after day. In fact, many of us don’t even know what happiness truly means. Grab a copy of The Happiness Project and let’s find out together!

I read this a few months ago and really enjoyed reading! I started off 2015 by cleaning out as much of our closet and storage as I could. Now I need to create to boost energy and create vitality. Good pick!

After I discussed this book selection with Leah, I ordered it from Amazon only to realize I had already had it sitting on my bookshelf in my office for the past a year! 2 copies are better than one?!
Leah Bergman says
Ha! You should gift one copy...the gift of happiness.
