I get asked lots of food questions, and not the kind you might guess like, "Do you mean all-purpose or cake flour". I am constantly asked, "How do you eat all of those sweets and stay thin?" While the whole "staying thin" question is still up for debate, I do feel a bit responsible for attracting these sorts of inquiries. You see friends; blog land can be a bit misleading. It's a world of cake and pie daily followed by bikinis and skinny jeans. How is that anyone's reality? The truth is, my blog is a place to share all of my favorite things like my love for baking. What I don't share is the stuff in between. Like anyone, I struggle to have the self-control not to eat everything I bake! Believe me, it's tough when I bake once to twice a week! Finding a balance between my love for food and my body takes constant effort on my part.
On Monday I posted a summer swimwear giveaway and was surprised to hear many of you mention how hard you're working to eat healthy and stay in shape for summer. My readers are struggling with healthy eating and I am giving them butter cream frosting? What kind of person am I? Well ladies & gents, you have inspired me! Over the next few weeks, in addition to the regular sweet posts, I plan to share some of my favorite healthy summer recipes. I'm posting my recipe for a delicious green smoothie, my secret hydrating beach drink, and lots of waist friendly snacks in hopes of bringing a little balance to Freutcake. So, what are some of your favorite healthy recipes? What do you do to stay balanced?

I agree that giving away 90% of what you bake is a very effective method! lol

I love this theme. I also bake frequently and struggle with "tasting to make sure everything is good." I pawn lots of those tastings off to my husband (sorry hubs!). I go back and forth on eating healthy and working out regularly. I am always working on that balance. Thanks for taking up this topic, and I'm looking forward to what you'll share!

Thank you Sara! I also pawn off a lot of baked goods on my husband...don't think he minds. 😉

Great idea Leah! I also constantly get these questions as a food blogger. It can be tough to balance out the baking (and my love of pasta!) that I share with my readers and my real life. Looking forward to your tips and recipes!

Love this idea! I find it helpful to make a simple vinaigrette (fresh lemon juice, olive oil, s&p, & herbs) in a mason jar. It’s perfect for times when I steam veggies, make a salad, grill up chicken, or fish - adds a fresh kick of flavor without too many unnecessary calories.

That is a great tip Tiffany! A simple vinaigrette over steamed veggies sounds divine. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

I adore this idea! I have thought of incorporating a few into my recipe series myself. I have a few go to's: coconut curry chickpeas, barley rissotto... but I could use some new inspiration!

Yum! Both of those recipes sound delicious Jacquelyn. 🙂 You should definitely share those on your blog!

Thank you for this post! Cupcakes and other baked goods are so in trend nowadays that a lot of stylish thin bloggers often post delectable sweet things online (which is great in my book) but as you mentioned, there's a lot of omission with regards to the not-eating-all-the-things-i-post part, so you do get puzzled (and let's face it, envious) about how these people can indulge so much and stay slim. One of my friends bake a lot but she stayed thin, and she said the secret is to have enough self-control to just eat a small portion of the baked goods and give the rest to (often grateful) neighbors and friends and families. We need more bloggers voicing that although indulgence is great (and necessary at times!), portion control is important, and thanks for being one of those bloggers.
