If this were a Geico commercial the punchline would be "Happier than a food blogger in her favorite ice cream shop." That about sums up how excited I was to visit the new Carmela Ice Cream that opened about a month ago on Third Street in Los Angeles. It's not like I haven't had Carmela's about a million times between their stand at the South Pasadena Farmer's Market and their flagship store on Washington. Nevertheless, I just couldn't resist visiting the new location...and eating some of my favorite ice cream.
I'm so in love with Carmela's Honey Vanilla Lavender in fact that I even attended one of their many ice cream making classes just to have the recipe. Let me tell you, it's dangerous knowledge to possess.
Enough about my love for this ice cream already and onto what makes it so great. Carmela's has just the right amount of egg yolk in the custard, milk fat in the cream, and love for the process, to make this ice cream perfect.
To make this scoop even better it's served in freshly made and ultra delicious waffle cones and waffle bowls. To give you a hit as to what these cones taste like...the entire shop smells like browned butter and vanilla. (stop it...I know)
Let's talk flavors for a minute because when it comes to Carmela's, there is nothing average about the menu. Expect to see Brown Sugar Vanilla Bean take the place of everyday vanilla and Dark Chocolate Cacao Nib stand in for Chocolate. The Meyer Lemon Olive Oil tastes like a freshly baked lemon bar and the Orange Vanilla Bean Sorbet like a 50/50 bar.
Where Carmela's really hits the flavor mark is with their Salted Caramel, Earl Grey Tea, and Honey Vanilla Lavender. Always subtle and never too daring, these flavors will have you reconsidering your favorite scoop of ice cream.
Like I said...happier than a food blogger in her favorite ice cream shop! Do you see that grin?

These flavors sound amazing! When I was in Philly for a conference, there was a similar store and I could have gone back every day. Let's not mention I was there for a nutrition conference.

Oh my goodness! Earl Grey Tea?! Fresh mint with cacao nibs?! I'm salivating just reading that blackboard. Oh how I wish we had fun ice cream shops around these parts. Maybe I should open my own? 😉
PS. You're sure looking gorgeous in these photos (as per usual). xo
