    Giving Thanks

This past holiday weekend has reminded me of all the many reasons I have to be thankful.

I spent an entire day in my parent’s kitchen cooking Thanksgiving dinner with my Dad, drinking holiday beer and listening to Christmas music. The result of which was learning the secret to my Dad’s brandied yams (a little bit of brandy for the yams, lots for the chef), enduring a few of his turkey related jokes, and laughing a whole heck of a lot. Food always tastes better when there is a bit of laughter, and evidently brandy involved.

We kept the Thanksgiving menu simple: Herb roasted turkey, pan gravy, my Dad’s infamous brandied yams, sautéed green beans, cranberry orange sauce, homemade dinner rolls, dressing, and pumpkin pie. It was perfect.

Sitting here today looking through our Thanksgiving weekend photos, I’m struck once again at how very thankful I am. I spent the last four days surrounded by the people I love most, enjoying their company and celebrating with food and tradition. What more could a holiday require. I hope your Thanksgiving was just as special!
