Disclaimer: Hide your children because if I get a chance, I'm likely to feed them ice cream cones!
To celebrate their new May Flowers menu of ice cream flavors, Salt & Straw stopped by to throw my girlfriends and me a curbside ice cream social and it was nothing short of delicious.
I'm pretty sure we looked like a big group of hungry kids when the Salt & Straw ice cream truck rolled up and opened their awning. Who didn't go crazy for the ice cream man when they were little? I guess some things never change...
One of the best parts about our little ice cream social, we all got to a chance to sample every flavor on the new menu without feeling totally guilty. Who else feels bad asking for multiple samples in an ice cream shop? I always feel bad for the person in line behind me. Just one more sample, I promise!
The (little) kids in the group loved, and I mean devoured, the classic Salted Caramel ice cream. Can you blame them? While the big kids enjoyed the more exotic floral flavors of the May Flowers menu.
We definitely had a few stand-out favorites like the Honey Lavender, Rhubarb Crumble with Toasted Anise & Wildflower Honey with Ricotta Walnut Lace Cookies. If it's fruity, floral, or packed with honey, it's my kind of flavor! You can keep your chocolate, at least this month.
Another standout flavor: the Cherimoya Milk Sorbet. I had never tried Cherimoya before but it has a lovely delicate almost tropical fruity flavor that works really well as a creamy sorbet. I would definitely order a scoop on a hot summer's day.
And on a completely separate note: I dare you to find anything more irresistible than a baby eating an ice cream cone. It turns out that this was the first time my friend Celeste's baby Isla had eaten her very own cone. Drippy ice cream chin, sticky chubby hands, and nothing left but a few bites of cone abandoned in the grass...now that's what summer is all about!
Leave it to an ice cream truck and a round of cones to make us all feel like kids again. Look at that face...
Hi-fives all around to ice cream and to the new menu Salt & Straw! I only wish more days could be like this.
