Homemade Peppermint White Hot Chocolate is so easy to make, you’ll be whipping up batches all holiday season long!

Peppermint White Hot Chocolate

White chocolate really is peppermint’s perfect flavor pair! Creamy white chocolate and spicy peppermint balance each other like any good relationship should. Wait, are we talking about people or hot chocolate here? Personally, I like this combo even better than milk chocolate and peppermint and when it’s all melted together in a warm creamy drink by the Christmas tree, there is nothing more delicious.

Good Quality Chocolate

You will want to use a good quality chocolate bar for this recipe, like Ghirardelli or Guittard. I don’t recommend using white chocolate chips for this as chips are generally made with stabilizers that keep them from melting nicely into the milk. A chopped up bar of high quality milk chocolate will melt smoothly without any lumps and thicken your hot chocolate. This is not a place to skimp on quality!

The Cutest Santa Mugs

I’ve always loved the look of vintage Santa Mugs so when I spotted these cuties at World Market, I grabbed four of them! They really are perfect for serving hot chocolate at Christmas time. I also grabbed a bag of crushed peppermint and snowflake marshmallows. You can shop all three here:

What Substitutions Can I Make?

When it comes to making homemade hot chocolate, the ingredients are rather forgiving! You can substitute dairy milk for any milk you’d like as long as you keep it at 4 cups of total liquid. Almond milk, coconut milk, soy…all of these will work. Just remember that they will be less rich and creamy than traditional dairy milk. As for the chocolate, you could absolutely try other bars of chocolate such as milk or dark depending on what you like! If you do chose another chocolate however, you may need to add a bit of sugar to taste. White chocolate is already sweet enough that it doesn’t require sugar. Happy Hot Chocolate Making!
