    The time to bare winter legs in sun dresses and scalloped shorts has arrived..eeek! So this week I am sharing a recipe for a simply delicious (I'm talking about scent of course) body scrub. Perfect for sloughing off dry skin on arms, legs & feet with the naturally exfoliating powers of raw sugar and the exotic scents of ginger and coconut. What are you waiting for...go pamper yourself!

    Ginger Coconut Body Scrub- recipe

    ¼ cup coconut oil
    1 Tablespoon of peeled and coarsely chopped ginger root
    ¼ cup almond oil
    1 - 1 ¼ cups of turbinado sugar {raw sugar}

    1. In a small saucepan add the chopped ginger and coconut oil. Heat over medium cooking ginger until it's fragrant and the oil is infused with the ginger scent. About 7 minutes.
    2. In a heat proof (pyrex) measuring cup, measure the almond oil. When coconut ginger oil is finished cooking (and still hot) pour through a fine mesh strainer into the almond oil. Discard cooked ginger.
    3. Stir to combine and let cool. Mixture will not solidify but will remain liquid.
    4. In a bowl, measure turbinado sugar and set aside. When oil is cooled completely, add it to the sugar and stir to combine.
    5. Store in an air tight container.

    To Use: Massage a small amount onto damp skin. You may use a washcloth to help wash away excess oil if desired. For more exfoliation tips please read my post on Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub.

      Have you had any problems with the coconut oil solidifying?

        If it's really cold it might but I personally haven't had a problem. But if it does the scrub will still be good and should warm up again in your hands/shower.

      Does this expire/ go bad?

      • Leah Bergman says

        August 13, 2014 at 8:36 am

        Yes, because it doesn't have any preservatives it will only last 2-3 weeks. Enjoy!

          I believe that vitamin E is a preservative. Add some, it can only improve the mixture.
