Pear, Prosciutto and Blue Cheese Puff Pastry Tarte is the easiest appetizer to throw together that looks and tastes way fancier than it is to make. Fig jam, blue cheese, and salty prosciutto and sweet pear combine to make the tastiest bite!
Pear, Prosciutto and Blue Cheese Puff Pastry Tarte
When it comes to easy and delicious appetizers, a puff pasty tarte is one of my favorites to make! I spread store bought puff pastry with fig jam and top it with sliced pears, crumbled blue cheese, and salty slices of prosciutto. It's an absolutely delicious combination. This appetizer is perfect for New Year's Eve served with my Sparkling Pear French 75 Cocktails or as a small bite before Wild Mushroom and Crab Pasta.
Ingredients Needed for this Puff Pastry Tarte:
- Puff Pastry - I buy frozen puff pastry sheets. They only need about 30 minutes to defrost on the countertop before baking.
- Fig Jam - I always have fig jam in my refrigerator for cheese boards and it gives a nice sweetness to this tarte.
- Pear - Any variety of crisp pear works!
- Prosciutto - thinly sliced Italian cured ham. This crisps up and adds a salty topping to the tarte.
- Blue Cheese - crumbled blue cheese.
- Egg - to brush on the dough. This gives the dough a deep golden brown color.
- Thyme - fresh thyme leaves for garnish.
Steps for Making Puff Pasty Tarte
- Unroll one sheet of puff pastry and place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
- Using a sharp knife, score around the edge about ½" in (not cutting all of the way through the dough) to create a "crust."
- Spread puff pastry with fig jam.
- Top with thinly sliced pears.
- Add a layer of prosciutto and then crumbled blue cheese.
- Brush edges with beaten egg.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes until browned.
- Sprinkle with thyme leaves and cut into squares and serve warm.
Tips for Making this Tarte
- Make sure to use a small amount of fig jam spread thin. Too much jam will make the the puff pastry too wet!
- Thin slice the pears and make sure the pears are nice and crisp. They will hold up better when baked.
- Add more prosciutto than I did in these photos, ha! Remember that the prosciutto will shrink when it bakes so you can add 4-5 slices to your tart.
- If the tart looks a bit wet, don't worry! Once the tart comes out of the oven, let it cool slightly before slicing. This will help the tart set up.
The first time I baked this tarte, it was a cold and rainy day and I made this for John and I to snack on with a glass of white wine. The combination of the sweet jam, soft pears, crispy prosciutto and salty blue cheese makes the most mouthwatering combination! If you love sweet & salty foods, this appetizer will be a fast favorite.

Pear, Prosciutto and Blue Cheese Puff Pastry Tarte
A sweet and salty puff pastry tarte made with fig jam, fresh pears, salty prosciutto and crumbled blue cheese.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet store bought puff pastry, defrosted
- 1 Tablespoon fig jam
- ½ firm green pear, sliced thin
- 4-5 slices prosciutto
- 3 Tablespoons crumbled blue cheese
- 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves, for garnish.
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Unroll one sheet of puff pastry and place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
- Using a sharp knife, score around the edge about ½" in (not cutting all of the way through the dough) to create a boarder for the tart. This will puff up and create a "crust"
- Spread puff pastry with fig jam, staying within the boarder you created.
- Top with thinly sliced pears.
- Add a layer of prosciutto and then crumbled blue cheese.
- Brush edges with beaten egg using a pastry brush.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes until browned. If the tart looks a bit wet, you can bake longer although it will set up as it cools.
- Sprinkle with thyme leaves, cut into squares and serve warm.
Notes
This recipe will only use one sheet of puff pastry. You can easily double this recipe and make both sheets of puff pastry that come in the box or save the second sheet for another use.
