Apple Cinnamon Bread is a spiced quick bread studded with fresh apples and drizzled with a simple cinnamon glaze. This is a must make during apple season!
Apple Cinnamon Bread
What is it about quick breads that has us coming back to them again and again? The really are the most simple baked good but bring a certain homestyle quality that can be lost with fancier desserts and such. Sour Cream Banana Bread is another quick bread favorite along with Classic Pumpkin.
However, when apple season rolls around and the air gets crisp and cool, nothing hits the spot and makes the house smell amazing quite like this Apple Cinnamon Bread.
Apple Cinnamon Bread Ingredients
- Flour - All purpose flour is what I use for this quick bread.
- Sugar - A mix of granulated and brown sugar.
- Eggs - Two large eggs, at room temperature.
- Butter - Unsalted butter, at room temperature.
- Apples - You will need two cups of diced apples which is about two large apples. Honey crisp apples are delicious in this bread but any crisp red apple will work.
- Spices - Cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Baking Soda - This causes your quick bread to rise!
- Vanilla - real vanilla extract.
- Milk - I recommend using whole milk for this.
How to Make Apple Cinnamon Bread
- Preheat oven and line a loaf pan with parchment paper to help prevent sticking.
- Cream together butter and sugars until fluffy.
- Beat in eggs and vanilla.
- Whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Peel, core and dice your apples into small ½" pieces.
- Add diced apples into batter and mix until all of the apple pieces are mixed in.
- Pour into prepared loaf pan and bake for 55-60 minutes or until a wooden toothpick comes out clean.
- While the loaf cools, make the glaze.
- Once the loaf is completely cool, drizzle with the glaze.
Apple Bread Recipe
I love this apple bread recipe because it calls for ingredients that most of us already have in our pantries! It comes out moist every single time and the tender chunks of fresh apple scattered through the bread are delightful to bite into.
Cinnamon Glaze
You could absolutely make this bread without the cinnamon glaze but I personally love the sweet finish and the extra cinnamon flavor! This glaze hardens up slightly once it sets which makes it easy to store.
What are the Best Apple to Use for Apple Bread?
A crisp, firm apple is always best to use for any baking. Classic Red Delicious apples are, in my opinion, too soft and grainy and don't bake up as nicely as a Honey Crisp or Pink Lady. You could also use Granny Smith if you want a tart and crisp apple.
Freezing & Storing Apple Bread
- Store- If you will be enjoying this bread right away, you can store leftovers in an airtight container or gallon Ziplock.
- Freeze - cool completely before freezing and freeze without the cinnamon glaze for the best results. I recommend wrapping the loaf in plastic wrap and then placing in a gallon freezer Ziplock bag. You can freeze for 2-3 months.
- Defrost - Defrost in the refrigerator or at room temperature before glazing.
The twins absolutely ADORE this cinnamon apple bread. It's always a special day when they get a slice for breakfast or for a an after school snack.

Easy Cinnamon Spice Apple Bread
A moist and cake-like cinnamon spiced quick bread studded with with fresh diced apples and drizzled with a cinnamon glaze.
Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup light brown sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup whole milk
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups peeled and diced apples
Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 Tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Butter and line a standard loaf pan with parchment paper, set aside.
- In an electric mixer, cream butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla extract and beat until combined, scraping down sides of the bowl.
- In a separate bowl whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Alternating between dry and wet ingredients: add flour and milk to the butter mixture starting and ending with flour, beating between each addition just until incorporated.
- Peel, core and dice your apples into small ½" pieces.
- Sprinkle diced apples with 1 Tablespoon of flour. This helps them to float in the loaf and not completely sink to the bottom.
- Add diced apples into batter and fold in until all of the apple pieces are mixed in.
- Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and bake for 55-60 minutes or until a wooden toothpick comes out clean from the center and loaf is golden brown. Start checking as early as 50 minutes depending on your oven.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool 30 minutes in pan before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Make the glaze: In a small bowl whisk milk into the powdered sugar. After the glaze is smooth, stir in cinnamon. Drizzle over cooled loaf.

Is this reminiscent of a certain apple cake? Would it be good served with homemade whipped cream? I think you should send a loaf to Elizabeth and see what she thinks!
