It’s one of those long hot lazy summer days and the last thing you want to do is step foot in the kitchen to cook. We’ve all been there. The kids are in the pool or in the backyard and eating outside sounds like the only option. Well, let me share my family’s favorite no-cook Easy Fried Chicken Dinner with you…yes, you read that right, NO COOK!

This meal is the perfect outdoor summer dinner. Let the kids stay in their swimsuits and set up your outdoor table for a dinner the whole family will love!

Famous Fried Chicken

We have long been fans of Von’s famous made in-store fried chicken. It’s always perfectly seasoned and crunchy like any good fried chicken should be and they fry it up fresh right in the deli. In fact, on my birthday last year, we pre-ordered 100 pieces of this chicken for my party.

You can see the giant three-tiered tower of fried chicken I served in this birthday blog post. Let’s just say, it was a huge hit with my party guests!

What to Serve with Fried Chicken

Here’s a tip, if you call your local Vons or Albertson’s store ahead of time, you can actually order their fried chicken to be made and ready for you at a specific pick up time. That’s what I did for my birthday party and I highly recommend it if you are planning to entertain. While you’re in store, here are a few other favorite pre-made items we love:

Signature Cafe Potato Salad with cage free eggs.
Fresh Cut Fruit Bowls – especially the watermelon!
In-Store baked cherry and apple pies.

How to Dress-Up Store Bought Chicken

If I’m being honest, fried chicken doesn’t need much in the way of dressing up. However, adding a few fresh herbs, lemon wedges and a sprinkle of fresh ground black pepper makes it awfully darn pretty. I love the flavors of fresh thyme with fried chicken. You can either remove the leaves and scatter them over the chicken or simply garnish with a few sprigs.

Grocery Store Pie Hack

One of my favorite easy dessert ideas is to dress-up store bought pies. In fact, you can see one of my favorite ways to decorate a store-bought pie in this Dessert Hacks blog post. For our fried chicken dinner, I picked up one cherry and one apple pie from the Von’s bakery section as well as a quart of Signature Select French Vanilla Ice Cream.

Cherry pie always reminds me of summers growing up and to this day it’s my absolute favorite pie. For a pretty presentation, cut the pies into slices and arrange them on a serving board. Top with ice cream and let the family dig in!
