When it comes to spicy margaritas, I say the spicier the better which is why today's cocktail gets a hit from both jalapeño and chili! Spicy Mango Jalapeño Margaritas are just the right amount of sweet, smokey, spicy and salty perfect for a day outside grilling.
Spicy Mango Jalapeño Margarita Recipe
Anytime we go out for Mexican, I order a spicy margarita but they are just as easy to make at home! Muddled fresh jalapeño gives such a delicious fresh flavor and spicy to cocktails. I muddle jalapeño into my Pomegranate Margaritas as well and the sweet and spicy combo is addictive.
Not grilling this weekend, no problem! Char your jalapeños right over the gas stove to get that same great flavor.
Ingredients in a Spicy Mango Margarita
- Tequila - I prefer blanco for this margarita but gold would work as well!
- Cointreau - or your favorite orange liqueur
- Lime - fresh lime juice
- Mango - juice and fresh mango for garnish
- Jalapeños - to bring that spice!
- Tajin - or your favorite chili salt blend for the rim.
Because I'm all about that edible garnish, I added a mini skewer with fresh mango sprinkled in Tajin for snacking. Of course, you might also want to serve a bowl of mango and chili on the side as well, it's so darn good.
The Best Spicy Margaritas
On my last trip to Mexico, I'm pretty sure I drank my weight in Tamarindo Margaritas. They served them with a salted chili rim which was absolutely the best part of the drink. Here at home you can buy Tajin which is a chili, lime and salt seasoning in most grocery stores. Rim your cocktail glasses with lime or mango juice and then dip generously in the seasoning.
How to Make Spicy Mango Margaritas
- Char - on the grill or over a flame on your stove-top, char jalapeños until blackened. Reserve one for garnish and slice the second removing the stem.
- Rim - Rim a cocktail glass with lime and dip in Tajin seasoning, set aside.
- Muddle - In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add a few slices of charred jalapeño and a few chunks of fresh mango. Muddle well with the back of a wooden spoon or cocktail muddler.
- Shake - Add in tequila, lime juice, mango juice and shake very well, until chilled.
- Pour- pour into prepared cocktail glass filled with crushed ice.
- Garnish- garnish with a skewer of mango sprinkled with Tajin, your second charred jalapeño and a wheel of lime.
- Enjoy!
Possible Variations of this Cocktail
- No Mango? Pineapple would be delicious in this cocktail! In fact I have a pineapple mojito recipe that you might also like.
- Can I make it without jalapeño? Sure! It won't be spicy but a mango margarita is delicious even without the spice.
- Tequila - silver is my preferred but as I mentioned before, you can use any tequila you like.
- No Tajin? No problem! You can either make your own blend of chili powder and salt or you can just rim your glass with coarse rock salt. Either will work fine!
